Geographic Distinctives and Defining Features

Now that you have developed your own personal definition of the location of your country, I want you to tell me those distinctives that are specific to the nation and then those features that are unique for the country. For example, Japan has the geographic distinctive of being islands off the coast of China

with one of the defining features that is unique only to Japan being Mount Fuji (Fujiyama). Many countries are islands off the coast of China, but only Japan has Mt Fuji and when you see a picture of rice paddies with people replanting rice that could be any where in Asia (Taiwan, Philipines Hainan, Japan) but if they are standing with Mount Fuji in the background only Japan has that unique and defining feature (Mount Fuji). Download some pictures of defining features of your country.

  16. Gateway of India
Mumbai'smost famous monument, this is the starting point for most tourists who wanst to explore the city. It was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. Ironically, when the Raj ended in 1947, this colonial simbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway. Today this simbol of colonialism has got Indianised, drawing droves of local tourists and citizens. Behind the arch, there are steps leading down to the water. Here, you can get onto one of the bobing little motor launches, for a short cruise through Mumbai's splendid natural harbour.
